Pgh Redneck Revolt is proud to kick off our fundraiser to support the newly formed Surviving Sisters Gun Club with a screening of Out in the Night: a documentary tracing the story of the NJ 4, four gay black women who were incarcerated for defending themselves from a public assault on the streets of the West Village in NY. The film is an indictment of both the horrendous reaction of the state and the criminally sensationalist coverage by the media, to an instance of justified self defence in the face of misogynistic violence.

The Surviving Sisters Gun Club are best described in their own words:
«We are the newly formed Surviving Sisters Gun Club, a Pittsburgh-based group of black and Native women committed to arming and training ourselves to prevent and interrupt occurrences of gender-based violence against ourselves and others in our communities. With your support, we will offer move-out services to women trapped in violent home environments. Most of us are experienced survivors of physical and sexual violence. Most of us are also mothers. Many of us have already helped others move out of violent situations as part of our life experiences. We are now organizing to formally provide this service to other women who may lack personal support systems.

Black and Native women exist at the crossroads of gender-based, racist, and State violence. We are continually murdered by the police. When violence occurs in our homes and neighborhoods, we are currently faced with the impossible choice between enduring the violence or calling upon the police, who may very well end up killing us. The Surviving Sisters will provide an alternative. We intend to survive gender-based violence and white supremacy by any means necessary, and to guard our sisters and non-binary siblings with our lives»

There will be a suggested donation of $10 at the door and we will be passing around the hat later in the evening, for anyone who can give a little extra. Childcare and food will be provided, as well as company to walk back to the bus stop or car for anyone who would like it.
