Live Music from theSHIFT (NYC), Anjroy (PGH) and Glo Phase (PGH) — Sunday Funday vibes / 4pm / 21+ / $5
Individually, the members of theSHIFT are highly sought-after musicians who’ve recorded and toured the world with music royalty. Together, John Shannon (vocals/guitar), MJ Lambert (drums) and Ben Geis (bass) craft earth-shattering, anthemic rock with vibrant depth and a forceful punch. The powerhouse trio’s defiant sound is perfectly captured on its debut 7th Direction, to be released on April 14.theSHIFT’s multi-layered riffs and heavy driven groove are in full effect with “Kobra”, the first single off of 7th Direction. The song received its world premiere with Loudwire.7th Direction was recorded at Brooklyn’s Mission Sound and Manhattan’s JRock Studios and co-produced by Jamie Siegal (Taking Back Sunday, Mary J. Blidge, Santana). Referencing the Native American concept of directions, the track title further reflects a deeper meaning behind theSHIFT’s approach to music. “theSHIFT is about altering your consciousness through the sheer power of rock n’ roll,” declares Shannon. “Our lyrics don’t question the government, they question the nature of your reality.”
Having each attended the famed Berklee College of Music, theSHIFT comes from a wide-ranging music spectrum. Shannon has recorded and toured with top-national acts like John Mayer, Lauren Hill and Ben Harper, and also composed music for comedian Louis CK’s live specials and hit FX series, Louie. Lambert and Geis’ musical roots lie deep in the world of hip hop, having backed legends Big Daddy Kane and Slick Rick.
After a year and a half of non-stop touring and gathering die hard fans across the United States, theSHIFT’s song “Dreams” was mysteriously added to a mainstream rock radio station in Lima, Peru where the song went to #1 and soon became #5 of the year 2015 amongst Coldplay and Florence and the Machine. theSHIFT were the only independent band on the top 150 list. Shortly after this they were then noticed on YouTube by the legendary songwriter/producer and co-creator of the Woodstock Festival, Artie Kornfeld, who has taken them into the studio to begin work on their next album.
theSHIFT is constantly on the road, bringing its vivacious rock n’ roll spirit to life onstage.
Fresh on the scene, we are Anjroy, an original Pittsburgh-based band that is ready to burst. Our music can be difficult to put a label on. Some define it as Electronic, some as Pop, and some weirdo called us a Baroque Boy Band, which makes absolutely no sense at all, especially since not all of us are boys.
Members of Anjroy, we are all veterans of the music scene in Pittsburgh and further afield. You may remember Jocelyn Rent as the lead vocalist of Omega Love. People who were young-ins before Omega Love (older people) might remember Justin Bechak from 3 Apples High. Steve Palko has long been an indispensable go-to bassist on the Pittsburgh scene, whenever he isn’t touring the country with the circus. And, the power house of the band is Andrew Kirk, who, since returning to Pittsburgh from Nashville, has quickly become an in-demand drummer with his emotionally expressive style.
Although Anjroy is in its early stages, the connections between the four of us go far back. Over the years, we have developed a tight musical camaraderie through playing in other formats, including wedding bands, jazz groups, boy bands, sing alongs and prison bands. However the music of Anjroy is where we put our heart, and we’re very excited to share it with you. Hope to see you at the next show!
Dreamy dance and/or chill music. Glo Phase is the solo electronic project of Joseph Rusnak, professional composer and local Pittsburgh music veteran. His debut «Tunnels for Star Veins» combines multiple genres, spanning from house, hip hop, ambient, downtempo, bass and more. While based in synthesizers and electronics Rusnak regularly incorporates drums, guitar, bass and vocals into his recordings. Computer-less live sets include improvised song forms on analog gear and luminous butterflies.
