Sun 2/25, Woodshop: DIY Wooden Bench, 11-4pm
In this new Woodshop class, we guide you along over the day to make yourself a beautiful bench made from 2x4s. In all our woodshop classes we focus on using power tools that are accessible and fairly affordable to buy, simple projects for beginners and skill building with affordable tools you can get at Home Depot. You learn about selecting wood, cutting with a compound mitre saw, using nail guns, sanding with a variety of sanders, staining/ sealing. Students make a 4ft bench and then get some stain & gloves to take home and finish it at your leisure. We also can deliver for an additional $10 and if within 20 minutes of the shop.
Though we have a love for woodworking we are a project and accessible based school and a bit more lo fi. Translation- we don't focus on hand work, joinery and high end finish carpentry. We focus on diy and design projects for everyone using power tools. So think Trading Spaces/ HGTV projects vs Bob Villa/ This Old House. We save the intense large equipment for places Tech Shop and we offer classic home carpenter/ tinkerer equipment. The classes are great for beginners or folks with a bit of experience, people who maybe want to do more around thier house and want to eat comfortable with tools. As well all the tools we use are available to rent at Home Depot besides purchasing for yourself. Again all about accessibility for our classes and things you can duplicate at home and even improve upon with your own design flair and ideas.
Super fun, class that gets you using various tools and equipment. Ideal for indoor or outdoor with some extra sealant. Quite a beauty made simply with some fun short cuts so anyone can make these. We also offer wood shop rentals for students who don't have the space or tools and want to work on a project. Just email us.
This class requires long sleeves, safety glasses (we have some too), sturdy shoes. You are welcome to bring your own cordless drill if you have one. We supply every student with an apron to take home- woohoo. Feel free to bring a packed lunch or a microwave meal or youre welcome to hit Spak for some pizza as we will have a 30 minute lunch break mid class.
