Samantha Baskind discusses the proliferation of comics
and graphic novels about the Holocaust, from Superman’s
heroics in the Warsaw Ghetto to Art Spiegelman’s Pulitzer
Prize-winning graphic novel Maus to Miriam Katin’s Holocaust
memoir We Are on Our Own. Baskind's examination of these varied
representations demonstrates a remarkable range of
approaches in both word and image, depicting the
devastating reality of six million dead to wishful thinking at its
most fantastical.

The American Jewish Museum, the Holocaust Center and the University of Pittsburgh Jewish Studies Department present this talk in conjunction with CHUTZ-POW!

CHUTZ-POW! is a comic book series created by the Holocaust
Center of Pittsburgh that honors Holocaust survivors,
resistance fighters and liberators by placing stories of sacrifice,
courage, and resilience at the forefront of Holocaust
awareness.
