At the July Creative Conversation, special guest Andrea Wetherald will guide participants through a confrontation workshop. This workshop is a sample of a 1/2 day mindful improv experience called Freedom Through Confrontation. It offers an introduction into the ways in which core improv skills can be applied to the way we prepare for and conduct ourselves during a confrontation.

Specifically, we will be applying these skills to instances when people we love say and do things that are unjust and unloving. We will discuss how to balance honoring what we believe is right while also honoring the human person with whom we disagree. Participants will be guided through a series of short form improv games that are chosen for their relevance to skills that help us have a more productive dialogue when we disagree.

About Andrea Wetherald: Andrea Wetherald is an improviser, culture shift consultant, foster mom, pioneer of mindful improv and owner of &Beyond- a Pittsburgh-based consultancy using improv and evidence-based methods to help employers invested in the employee experience attract, engage and retain amazing team members as they grow. Andrea is a Bluffton University alum. Her career began as a behavior change coach on a University of Pittsburgh research study where she was trained in the Transtheoretical Model of behavior change, and Motivational Interviewing (an evidence-based method for empowering the change process). This training, along with her subsequent work in both startup and corporate settings, has greatly informed the programming offered by &Beyond. Andrea lives in the East End with her family and their lovable pitbull, Farley. She currently performs as an improviser on two house teams at the Arcade Comedy Theater.

About Creative Conversation: Creative Conversation is a monthly event that brings people together to practice constructive dialogue, build empathy, and share resources. We will forge seemingly unlikely relationships by listening and sharing our differing views on current topics. Facilitated by community leaders, our goal is to empower participants to enact change within themselves and within the communities.
